In this sermon on John 12:9–24, Zack DiPrima examines the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, revealing the remarkable truth that Christ is a humble King whose glory comes through His atoning death for His people. Organizing the passage around three themes—the jubilant crowd, the humble King, and the fruit of death—DiPrima first warns against the danger of superficial or “formless” faith. The crowds enthusiastically welcomed Jesus as Israel’s Messiah, yet many failed to understand His true identity and saving mission. Whether expressed through cultural Christianity, fleeting religious enthusiasm, or sincere but incomplete interest, such faith cannot save apart from genuine repentance and personal trust in Christ. Turning to Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem on a donkey, DiPrima demonstrates how Christ fulfilled Old Testament prophecy by coming not as a conquering political ruler but as a gentle King who willingly gave His life for sinners. Far from diminishing His glory, the cross is its supreme revelation. Finally, Jesus’ illustration of a grain of wheat falling into the ground and dying reveals that His sacrificial death produces an abundant harvest of spiritual blessings. Through the cross, Christ purchases forgiveness, redemption, holiness, fellowship, and every blessing enjoyed by His people. The sermon ultimately calls believers to move beyond merely admiring Christianity to truly knowing and following Jesus, recognizing that the cross is both the pinnacle of Christ’s glory and the wellspring of every blessing in the Christian life.
