The New Testament institutes two offices for the governance and leadership of the church: Elders and Deacons. The Scriptural pattern is a plurality of elders (also called Pastors) in each local church who lead, teach and shepherd the flock of God that is among them. Deacons are servants of the church who serve the practical needs of the congregation under the leadership of the Elders. Elders and Deacons are all called by God to exhibit both competency in their role as well as Christlike character in their lives.
